Delouvin Nowack
Delouvin-Nowack • Vandières —
Crafting terroir-driven Champagnes with a devotion to Meunier,
old vines, and mineral elegance.”
Founded in 1949 as a union of two families, Delouvin-Nowack traces roots in Vandières back to the 17th century. Originally both winemakers and coopers, the Delouvin family began producing and commercializing Champagne in the early 20th century (around 1930). Today, the estate is run by Geoffrey Delouvin, the 11th generation, who combines tradition and innovation to evolve the family’s legacy.
Terroir & Vineyard
The Delouvin-Nowack vineyard covers about 7.25 hectares, all located in the prestigious Cru of Vandières in the Marne Valley. Across 36 distinct parcels — many of which are old vines — the soils are a mosaic of chalk, clay-limestone, sand, and exposed marl. The slopes face south / south-east, offering optimal sun exposure. Pinot Meunier is the cornerstone grape, complemented by Chardonnay and minor plots planted with Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Petit Meslier.
Viticulture
Every decision at Delouvin-Nowack begins in the vineyard. Each parcel is tended individually, with grapes grown exclusively from the estate’s own vines — none are purchased. The approach is minimal-intervention: no herbicides or insecticides are used, soils are ploughed and cover-cropped, and treatments are reduced to the minimum necessary. This focus on biodiversity and soil vitality reflects a deep respect for terroir and the living ecosystem that defines Vandières.
Winemaking Philosophy
In the cellar, the same artisanal precision continues. Fermentations take place either in stainless steel or, for select cuvées, with native yeasts in small oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation is generally avoided to preserve purity and freshness. A perpetual reserve of Pinot Meunier, maintained since 1992, adds depth and continuity to the non-vintage blends. Aging is deliberately long: even the non-vintage wines rest at least 36 months on lees before disgorgement, allowing the wines to gain texture, complexity, and harmony.
